[External_Sender] Docket No. 72-10050; NRC-2016-0231 Waste Control Specialists LLC's/ISP's Consolidated Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility Project May Ma, Office of Administration Mail Stop: TWFN-7-A60M U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 October 17, 2018
Dear NRC and May Ma,
It has been brought to my attention that there is a license application for Consolidated Interim Storage of radioactive waste in Texas, and at the same time a review of the Holtec project proposed for nearby New Mexico. Two huge problems here. These sites could likely become inadequate permanent disposal sites as places for more permanent sites have been studied for decades to no avail. There are all sorts of risks here, including health and security, contamination of land, air and waterways as well as financial disaster.
In addition, the idea of transporting all of this radioactive waste through populated area? What are they thinking?? All of the above catastrophes could be spread out in these populated area or anywhere along transportation routes whether by truck or rail-----what could possibly go wrong?
This is a really bad idea. In addition to all of the horrible consequences of any mishaps, I understand that homeowners insurance does not cover radioactive contamination. I can imagine that there are hundreds of homeowners associations that would have a say about this to the state.
There should be public meetings in all of the cities in or near the transportation routes, with extended time to allow the public to give input, six months at least.
Better yet, dont even consider these applications.
Sincerely, Joyce Hall 214-357-2173 hallmj@sbcglobal.net
