There are at least five reasons to abandon this exceptionally bad idea for what is known as a CISF. The first, and foremost, is also why all nuclear applications, from mining, to end use, to waste, are bad for all life on Earth - radiation sickens, maims and kills. It causes unseen genetic harm in future generations as well as fatal illness in the living. It is the deadliest and most insidious means of generating power or building weapons ever devised by foolish, arrogant humans.

Second - Because of the inherent dangers of all nuclear material, anyone tasked with handling that waste is in grave danger. How will workers, those at the waste sites, those on the railroads, and those at the CISF's, be kept safe from the harms of radiation? I'm not sure there actually is a way to ensure their safety regardless of potential human errors or mechanical malfunctions which may occur and increase that danger.

Third - Again, due to the extreme danger inherent in the material being transported, anyone along the route, whether highway, railway, or waterway, can be reasonably believed to be in danger of radiation exposure.

Why would we knowingly put so many of our own citizens in danger like that? Add to that the potential for accidents, or even planned attacks, along the way, and there is simply no means to make such a journey transporting such dangerous materials acceptably safe. And what would be done with the rail cars that become contaminated? Would they then require some sort of CISF as well?

Fourth - There is no place in the world that is geologically stable enough to be considered safe storage for extensive duration. Plate tectonics is a force against which we can neither effect change nor predict movement. Also, given that there is no know safe storage container for this type of material, there will always be leaks.

Fifth - Any area surrounding a CISF will be, for all intents and purposes, rendered useless forever. All human life will need to stay far away, and all animal life in the area will be altered dramatically and perhaps eventually wiped out. Who knows how such long-term exposure would affect plant life? How would it affect aquifers? And therein lies yet one more major problem with this idea for storage - we really don't know if it will work, how it could fail, or what the consequences would be when it fails.

Finally, it is obvious that the American People are being targeted to pick up the tab for this mess created by a greedy industry. It is that industry which must pay the entire price for the mess they made.
