[External_Sender] NRC Docket 72-1050 NRC 2016-0231 Reject the Proposal to consolidate irradiated fuel because it doesn't solve the problem of nuclear waste. Sweeping it under the rug won't last for the half life of the waste. The solution is multipart.
First, we must stop producing nuclear waste. Then we must isolate as much as possible. This will be very difficult because sloppy disposal methods have been used for decades.
The waste should then be glassified into pellets that are more stable and stored in monitored, retrievable containers in an isolated, geologically stable region, such as the granite near, but not too near, the Great Lakes.
This solution may not be politically easy, but it is the safest for our progeny, should they survive the other dangers we've thrown their way.
