[External_Sender] NRC Docket 72-1050 NRC 2016-0231 Have members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) thought about what it might be like to live near the proposed nuclear waste temporary storage site in Andrews County, Texas? Or have they considered how it might feel to live in a town near a transport route? Parents have to think about the dangers posed because they need to be sure their children are living in a safe location.
NRC needs to hold a series of meetings for residents of Andrews County and for the cities, towns and counties along the transport routes. This will provide a measure of whether or not such proposals are acceptable to the inhabitants of these localities. Justifiable opposition may be sufficient to indicate an interim site cannot be built and transportation of high level radioactive waste cannot be allowed.
Instead of an interim storage facility, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission can instead recommend expenditures for the enhancement of on-site dry cask storage at nuclear power plants; those still active, being phased out or closed.
