[External_Sender] Moving nuclear waste by transit across the US

Folks, Count this as a letter of deep protest in permitting nuclear waste to be moved by rail, road, riversor even airto a West Texas repository by this Waste Control Specialist company. It's yet another attempt to endanger people's lives so it can profit. That it plans to do this regularly and store radioactive waste in open pits as well is shocking.. Do not issue a license for any nuclear-waste company to attempt the same.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is mandated to protect the public from radiation as well as carefully monitor nuclear power plants in this country. I live in the Northwest where for more than 3 decades, cleanup from WWII radiation is still ongoing in eastern Washington. The idea that nuclear waste is no more dangerous than transporting ordinary garbage in highway wrecks, waterway spills, and especially constant derailments is insane, but not to WCS (unless the waste were dumped around its headquarters and the homes of those who made this decision and are trying to sneak it past environmental protections).

Do not permit this to happen to millions of residents along the routes WCS has suggested.

Instead, do the following:

  • Postpone any decision on issuing a license to WCS until until the residents along those routes have been informed of what's afoot, written both in English and Spanish. Considering the half-life of nuclear materials ranges from decades to centuries, what's the rush to that October 19 deadline for public input except to enriches the bank accounts of WCS owner(s) and stockholders?
  • Hold well-publicized (TV, newspaper/social media) public meetings along the projected routes and Texas site about WCS's planned routes and storage area.
  • Do a thorough EIS investigation along those routes, as well as a history of transport accidents in the last 20 yearsconsidering the increasing crumbling of U.S. infrastructure.

Thank you for your interest and consideration on this licensure issue.
