Dear Mr. Stello:

/

3 0>P 84'r a+~q Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:

Mr. Victor Stello, Jr., Director Division of Operating Reactors U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 The purpose of this letter is to file the fish impingement report for the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant units 1, 2, and 3 (Facility Operating Licenses DPR-33, DPR-52 and DPR-68) f th fi of 1977 as 7

or e

rst quarter o

as required by the environmental technical specifications.

Weekly counts were conducted, and data sheets with fish impingement estimates are enclosed.

Excessive accumulations of dead leaves and other debris in the intake channel occurred durin th k

u ng e wee s o rc 1 -19, and 21-26.

The debris was trapped against the intake screens and created a drop in pressure on the suction of the main condenser circulating water pumps.

This condition necessitated the continuous washing of all travelling screens in operation and precluded fish impingement counting for individ 1

H all fish th ua screens.

However, s

that were impinged and washed off the screens were collected and included in a total count for all screens for each of the three weeks.

The number of each species impinged were sorted and counted during the total counts.

This information is noted on the appropriate data sheets for those weeks.

Tom Wambach of your staff was notified by telephone on March ll, 1977, and he indicated that the above specified minor variation from the environmental technical specifications requirement for a count from individual screens was permissible until normal operations could be resumed.

Very truly

urs, J

J.
