el'..c tr i ci ty of tl baseload steam genera tin plants on the TvA ys gem. I f this capaci ty is not available during t?lis summer s peak load period, substantial amounts of capacity will have to be acquired from other sources if it is available.. This could add about $ 70 million to the bills of the electric consumers in the TVA region during the months of June, July, and August. T? e de-cision to purchase any available large b3.ocRs of power may have e to be made as early as mid-?lay, and will involve demand charges of about $ 20 million, whether or not any power is later used. Xf this amount of power cannot be purchased, it appears that system reliability will be reduced to unacceptable levels.

Accordingly, we urge that a decision on TVA's motion be rendered expeditious'ly.. A favorable decision will'ensure system reliability'nd avoid the unnecessary expenditure of $ 70 million, which must be borne by the ratepayers. Ãe ask that the Commission meet with us within the next, week to give us an opportunity to express personally our concerns.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY PUBLXC POL~ER ASSQCXhTXQ+2 Charles H. Dean, Jr., President TENNESSEE VALLEY XNDUSTRXAL COflHXTTEE By I,.n .>;<
