Dear lb. Hov)den:
This letter is on behalf of the above-named organization, and. in'eference to a:uy 7, 1976 letter svritten to you, by ~~@.
Charles Dean of t¹ ennessee Valley Puolic Po'Ie~ Association and ia. Richard Bid;veil of the Tennessee Valley industrial Com-mittee.
Yle vfere alarmed to note that that letter divas vtritten on "behalf of the electric povler consumers of the Tennessee Valley region." That lIr. Bid.veil cannot speak for-consumers goes vr th-out saying, since he rep"esents thirty. large industries in th'is region and in no vIay represents TVA's more than tvjo million home consumers of e3.ectricity-.
As for klr. Dean, rIe have found him to be unfriendly to suggestions, proposals and. requests presented to him by a Knoxville coo~i'tion of consumers, Knozville Citizens for Lovf UtilityRates.,le feel that you should be cognizant of the fact that Itr. D an " presents and. speaks for distributors, not consumers, of TVA poi"er.
'/hile vie have not, as Ve mi'ht vtish, found s'ndespread op-position to nuclear "o';".er among TVA consumers, vre have found a vtidespread concern
-'--=--'. nucl ar popover be produced. safely.
Clearly TVA~s record at Bro.,:"= erry is not ir any vs'zemplary.
Yle therefore urge the; -'"o.ucl ar Regulatory Commission take every precaution in the r=-
~ sencing of Brovr.'s Perry.
Ue think that
- care, ravity and c==== '1 (even if time consumin") consideration of tne Brovln~s'err-- =-:tuation is not only in the best interest of TVA~s consumers;
=: is also in the HRC's oest interest (as a regulatory a=ency "::<<c'. has come under public fire) and TVA.~s (as an agency which must ultimately convince the public that it can and vd.ll opera';=- its reactors safe y).
So ere ask you that you insure that if and vrhen Brovtv's Perry is reopened, that it 'be done safely and.. judiciously as the lives and. vrell-being of v>> consuu rs requires.
"le ask that your decis-ion not be made hastily or under pressure, but solely on the merits of the case.
- Sincerely, Dennis Bruoaker, staff person o
