RECEIPT OF NUCLEAR ENERGY INSTITUTE SUBMITTAL OF PROJECT NUMBER 689, REACTOR OVERSIGHT PROCESS ENHANCEMENT

Dear Mr. Pitesa:

This letter acknowledges receipt of a September 19, 2018, letter to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), Project Number 689, ROP Enhancement (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML18262A322).

Your letter outlines recommendations made by the nuclear industry on potential changes to enhance the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP). Mr. Greg Halnon and other industry representatives briefed the NRC on these recommendations during a public meeting on September 20, 2018. A summary of this meeting is available at ADAMS Accession No. ML18271A089.

I appreciate your letter and look forward to NRC staff engaging with NEI, the nuclear industry, and other stakeholders on the recommendations to improve the ROP. The NRC will contact NEI regarding plans to hold a public meeting in the very near future to further discuss the recommendations and to establish an action plan.
