Subject:
Review of Technical Report NEI 18-08, Portable Media Scanning Stations/Kiosk Cyber Security Controls Evaluation Template Project Number: 689 Mr. James Beardsley:
The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI)1 submits, on behalf of its members, Technical Report NEI 18-08, Portable Media Scanning Stations/Kiosk Cyber Security Controls Evaluation Template, for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review and concurrence.
NEI 18-08 provides a standard evaluation format, cyber security control guidance, and implementation strategies to secure portable media scanning stations or kiosks against being used as an attack pathway to critical digital assets. Lessons learned from licensee cyber security program implementation and NRC inspections conducted during 2017 and 2018 necessitated this technical report to enhance clarity and consistency in implementation and to support continued NRC oversight activities.
NEI requests the NRC review NEI 18-08, Portable Media Scanning Stations Kiosk Cyber Security Controls Evaluation Template, and confirm that the document provides guidance acceptable to the NRC. We request your review by September 28, 2018. If any revisions to this document are necessary, please include suggested wording and the technical data to support the proposed change(s).
