Conference Call(s) re: Solicitation of Comments on draft Smith Ranch Documents Pertaining to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act Date: Monday, August 27, 2018 1:49:56 PM

Dear Tribal Historic Preservation Officers,

On August 9, 2018, I notified you by email that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff had published on the NRCs public website, information related to its draft cultural resource sections regarding Cameco Resources proposed license renewal for the Smith Ranch-Highland Uranium Project per Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The information can be found at: https://www.nrc.gov/materials/uranium-recovery/license-apps/smith-ranch/section106-smith-ranch.html. As stated in the August 9th email and on the website, the NRC staff is soliciting comments on the document that is accessible by the link provided on the web page. The NRC staff is accepting comments until Friday, September 7, 2018, with comments to be submitted by email to me at James.Park@nrc.gov.

In response to a request to set up a conference call or calls with interested Tribes to discuss the proposed license renewal and what it entails, I am notifying you of two times this week, during which I can discuss with those attending the proposed license renewal.

The information for both calls is provided below:

  • Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 1pm.
  • Thursday, August 30, 2018, at 1pm.

The call-in information for both calls is the same: 1-877-951-3947, passcode: 4698290#.

The calls will last as long as is needed to allow for a full discussion.

I recognize that these dates and time may not work for all who may be interested. I will be making a summary of the calls available to all of the Tribes. Additionally, I am available, as my calendar permits, to discuss this matter with individual THPOs - if that works better for you, please either e-mail me or call me with days and times this week that work for you.

Thank you, James Park, Project Manager NMSS/FCSE/ERB U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 301-415-6954
