[External_Sender] COMMENT TO the NRC on Docket ID NRC-2018-0052: Holtec Internationals HI-STORE Consolidated Interim Storage Facility Project
Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission Staff:
I'm writing to respectfully urge you to reject Holtec Internationals application for a Consolidated Interim Storage Facility (CISF) for high level nuclear waste in New Mexico.
First and foremost, centralized or consolidated interim storage sites are NOT allowed under US federal laws, because the DOE and American taxpayers are expected to own and transport the waste. Holtec wants to construct an illegal dump that taxpayers will end up on the hook for, for however long the so-called "interim" period lasts.
I also urge you not to accept or rely on the Environmental Report produced by Tetra Tech for Holtec. Documentation shows that Tetra Tech has a long history of falsifying radiation monitoring data, deliberately spreading radioactive soil and waste to previously clean places. According to the US Navy, EPA, and California Health Department, Tetra Tech has a record of using unqualified workers to supervise radioactive scanning and cleanup efforts, and suppressing and firing whistleblowers at the Navys Hunters Point nuclear site in San Francisco. This is It is clear Tetra Tech is not reputable and cannot legitimately assess environmental impacts of the proposed Holtec dump.
There are numerous other problems with this application, of which the NRC has been made abundantly aware. For the above reasons and others, I strongly urge you to firmly reject Holtec's storage facility proposal.
