I urge you to extend for 3 months the deadline for public comments. Since your website for accepting public comments has been broken almost all the time from April until now, it makes no sense to end public comments July 30. I join with many environmental organizations in requesting this extension.
There are many problems with the proposal for Holtec Environmental Report (ER) to bring spent fuel, high-level radioactive waste from nuclear reactors around the country to southeast New Mexico.
- 1) The people in Lea County should not be asked to live in or beside a nuclear dump, 2) the hazard for disasters in transportation is enormous, and 3) the Environmental Report is inadequate.
Much more research must be done to examine crucial issues neglected in the proposal and in the Environmental Report.
