Dear Mx. Keppler:

Xn my August 18, 1976 letter to you, concerning

,seismic qualification of conduit systems, X indicated that additional information and a schedule for the review of the installed conduit systems would be provided to you by September 30, 1976.

Since my first letter, several meetings have been held with the organization that analyzed our cable trough syst: em fox seismic qualification and with oux seismic consultant.

A combined testing and analytical approach to the problem has been selected.

A General Test Description Document has been prepared and several types of conduit clamps and typical supports are to be tested to determine theix seismic support characteristics.

A Design Criteria Document has been

'repared.

A dynamic analysis of the overall conduit systems (conduit, clamps and supports) will be performed utilizing the support characteristics as obtained fxom the testing..program.

G. Keppleg eptember 30, 1976 This approach requires an investigation of the "as-installed" conduit systems at the plant to assure that the different. methods of supporting conduit are considered.

After the testing, field data gathering and analyses are complete, criteria and instructions for implementation of any modifications shall be developed.

Implementation of these modifications at the plant shall be supervised by Indiana S Michigan Power Company personnel.

1 The following schedule is now anticipated:

I

~

Field'ata Gathering...............October 1976 Completion of Testing..............December 1976 Completion of Analysis.............January, 197 7 Development of Typical 6 Special Suppoxts...........................February 1977 Begin Field Implementation.......

~.March 1977 Xt is not possible at this time to estimate how long it will take to complete any modifications.

" When the analysis and development of typical and special supports are completed, it should be possible to establish a scheduled completion date for implementation at. the plant.

Vexy truly yours, John E. Dolan Senior Executive Vice President Engineering and Construction JED:mam cc:
