ro This letter is in response to Nr.
icfor Stello, Jr.'s Circular, Letter of February 2,
1978 to all PWR Licensees (except for Trojan) requesting a statement as to whether the reactor cavity annulus seal ring is left in place during normal operation or if biological shielding is installed in this annulus.
If either of these conditions exist, additional information is requested.
An inflatable rubber seal is installed in the reactor cavity annulus of the Donald C.
Cook Units 1 and 2
during refueling only and then removed after refueling operations have been completed.
No biological shielding is installed within the reactor cavity annulus.
Since neither of these two conditions exist during reactor power operation, these components are not missile sources at the Cook Nuclear Plant which could affect the ability of the control rods to shut down the reactor.
