Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter is in response to your letters of November 8 and 16, 1977 which transmitted to us IE Bulletin Nos.

77-.05 and 77-05A entitled, "Electrical Connector Assemblies".

With regard to elec-trical connectors inside containment (IE Bulletin 77-05) the information you requested has been transmitted to the NRC by our letters to Mr. E.G.

Case of November 17, 23 and 29, 1977.

With regard to electrical connectors outside containment (IE Bulletin 77-05A),

we do use a type of connector similar to those tested by Sandia Laboratories.

Our examination of the location of these connectors with respect to our high energy lines has shown these locations to be remote from the steam environment associated with postulated breaks.

In addition, the subject electrical connectors have been exposed to the test program described in our letters of November 17, 23 and 29.

The results of these tests indicate that the connectors are capable of sur-viving an environment such as would be associated with a high energy line break outside containment and thus would perform their intended design function following a high energy line break outside l"."

of containment even if any of them were in areas of high energy lines.

Very truly yours, J hn E. Dolan JED:dp cc:
