It would be a hazard to citizens and the environment of NM. No doubt. It is a fact that low-level radioactive waste dumps leak; and remediation costs thus far exceed a billion dollars. As a resident of Las Cruces I see no upside to this proposal for NM. Instead, it would introduce numerous, new health/safety issues potentially lasting for millions of years. Ludicrous. Our efforts should be focused on more responsible and safer methods of energy storage, production. Solar, wind and battery storage are the right and responsible approaches. Not nuclear and not storing spent fuel in NM.
