Renewal Application for the Model 865 Transport Package Design - USA/9187 /B(U)-96
Dear Sir or Madam:
QSA Global, Inc. requests renewal of the certificate referenced above for the Model 865 Type B(U) container. The current certificate expires on 31 March 2019. We request that Condition 6( c) and 6( d) which currently prohibit new manufacture and repair/replacement of welds on existing packages be removed from the certificate. In QSA Global, Inc. letter dated 1 February 2017, we submitted updated drawings which were supported by a drawing change table and a revised Safety Analysis Report (SAR Revision 13). In the drawing change summary table, we indicated the following:
The drawing specifications for welding were updated to reference applicable AWS standards with the intent to allow for future manufacturing of new Model 865 packages and/or allow future weld repairs on existing Model 865s.
Additionally, the applicable AWS standard revision year has been deleted from the welding references. This change has no significant impact on the performance of the package and is consistent with similar changes that were approved under USA/9269/B(U)-96 as part of a request made in letter dated 1/13/15 which was incorporated at Revision 8 of the CoC.
During the processing of the last amendment to this certificate of compliance, review to allow for future manufacture and/or weld repair was not reviewed by NRC. At this time, we request the current approval, including the drawings referenced on the certificate and Revision 13 of the SAR be reviewed to allow for future manufacture and/or weld repair and remove Conditions 6( c) and 6( d) with this renewal. There are no other changes to the approval requested at this time.
Should you have any additional questions or wish to discuss this submission after receipt please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely, 17~;~>
