To the Nuclear Regulatory Commission:
My son works at the WIPP site near Carlsbad and I have been very impressed at WIPP's concerns for safety in dealing with low level waste. But I fear that a private company, HOLTEC, storing high level waste in ways unproven to be safe, will not take safety as seriously as does WIPP. What sort of regulations will they be required to follow?
A shallow subsurface burial system - this is an outrageous way to deal with spent fuel rods. This is not even a Pilot program. It's an unproven very scary way to deal with this dangerous waste.
Admittedly the US, the world, has a dilemma as to what to do with all the nuclear waste we produce but to just dump it in New Mexico is unconscionable.
Do NOT allow this project to continue.
