[External_Sender] Nuclear Waste Holding Facility In Lea County To Whom It May Concern, I am a life long New Mexico resident with a family that includes three children. As a parent, I consider the childrens future when making decisions so that they might have the fairest shake at healthy and safe future and I believe that the government should be doing the same. While I understand that the nuclear waste in our country desperately needs a safe place for it to be stored; the manner in which it is being proposed to be stored in Lea County is not acceptable. There are no plans in the Environmental Assessment for what might happen if the spent rods were to leak, the plan also does not fully explain how the waste will be safely transported. This lack of information and seemingly lack of planning is not how to proceed in decision making process that concerns the future health of our communities.
It is unfortunate that the WHIPP facility did not turn out to be the ultimate safe place to store our nation's dangerous nuclear waste but attempting to store it in Lea County with out proper Environmental Assessments or plans in place to protect the community for the long haul is not an acceptable answer to the dilemma of nuclear waste in our country.
In response to the proposal of storing nuclear waste in Leas County; I would like it to be known that I stand opposed to the project.
