[External_Sender] Holtec International's dangerous Project

Dear nuclear regulatory commission:

Holtecs plan for interim storage of spent nuclear fuel in New Mexico in the South is dangerous and foolhardy.

Holtec must follow federal law to conduct an environmental impact study that demonstrates that this facility would not cause environmental damage or harm to the local communities.

As a public health professional, I am especially concerned about the potential harmful health effects from accidents during transportation on New Mexicos extremely limited highway infrastructure, and from leakage at the site. Transportation from rural highways throughout the country would also be subject to similar accidents during transportation, and your responsibility is to protect the nations population from harm.

There might be a few short-term jobs from this project, but the dangers far outweigh the benefit. My understanding is that the Albuquerque NRC public meeting had 10 to 1 comments against the project. Your responsibility is to listen to the public. Costs of the dangers of nuclear spent fuel should be born by the producers of the fuel, not the unsuspecting public.

Thank you for protecting the citizenry from this project.

Dr. Nina Wallerstein New Mexico
