[External_Sender] The unthinkable is inevitable If you will consider all the things in your life that couldnt happen, but did, perhaps you can see that tempting fate by running these machines well past their design life may have the same result - but on a catastrophic, even worldwide, scale. Nuclear electrical generation has proven to be, arguably, the most expensive mistake, beyond war, that the world has ever made.
If the F-5 tornados in northern Alabama has passed just a few miles north of their path, we would have had a local Chernobyl (from the above-ground waste storage) that would have made much of the Tennessee Valley uninhabitable. How cost-effective is that? Ask the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
All mistakes, by definition, are unforeseen, and continuing to run these complex, at times even jury-rigged, machines with tens of thousands of components, is beyond reason. And to avoid renewables in their favor is an invitation to global disaster. If the hundreds of billions of dollars siphoned into the pockets of the nuclear industry had been spent to make our world carbon-free, we wouldnt be facing the reality of worldwide mass extinctions and flooded cities.
Respectfully, Steve Johnston
