REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE ADVANCED POWER REACTOR 1400 PRESSURIZED-WATER REACTOR

Dear Dr. Corradini:

On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff, I would like to thank you for the letter from the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) dated July 26, 2018, on its final review and evaluation of the design of the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400).

Your letter fulfills the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 52.53 and 10 CFR 52.141, both entitled Referral to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS), and confirms the discussions that took place during ACRSs 655th meeting on July 11-13, 2018.

The staff appreciates ACRSs thorough review, and is finalizing the final safety evaluation report of the APR1400 design certification and related topical reports.
