COMMENT (219) PUBLICATION
.DATE: 3/30/2018 CITATION# 83 FR 13802 It should be pointed out that spent nuclear fuel has been transported around the US for many years, usually between storage facilities owned by the same company. There have been no accidents.
The plutonium waste from the Rocky Flats fire in the 1960's was transported to Idaho, often in heavy cardboard boxes, again without accidents. It should be perfectly safe to transport solid nuclear fuel in heavy steel casks to the Holtec site in New Mexico.
