Dear NRC Staff,

As a TVA customer, I am very concerned about TVAs early site permit application for small modular reactors at the Clinch River Site in Tennessee. TVA doesnt need more nuclear supply. The NRC should evaluate the costs of SMRs in comparison to other energy choices, such as wind and solar, including energy efficiency and conservation. TVA has recently embarked on an alarming trend of discontinuing incentives for energy efficiency in favor of increasing demand for electricity, thus creating false pressure to up capacity.

A comparison of the impacts on our water resources, including water quality and water supply of both surface and groundwater, should also be done by the NRC for SMRs and these other energy choices.

Last, I request that the NRC reject TVAs effort to reduce the emergency planning zone from 10-miles to 2 miles or less.

Should an accident ever occur at the Clinch River Site, the NRC should provide the public with a detailed analysis of how many members of the public could be harmed if these changes in the safety radius are implemented. If any confirmation is needed about the area affected by a nuclear explosion, I recommend viewing the recently declassified films of desert testing back in the 1940's and 1950's. The safety of our communities should be the NRCs top concern, not the ability for utilities to pursue an experimental technology that is not needed.
