In an email dated June 19, 2018, the Electric Power and Research Institute (EPRI) submitted the publicly available report, No. 3002005564 entitled, "Development of Generic Scaling Factors for Technetium
-99 and Iodine
-129 in Low and Intermediate Level Waste", dated November 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession (ADAMS) No.
ML18172A263), for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff's review and endorsement. In anticipation of this review, EPRI submitted a fee exemption request on April 20, 2018 (ADAMS No. ML18113A348), and NRC granted this fee waiver in a letter dated May 30, 2018 (ADAMS No.
. This letter is to inform you that NRC staff have received the above report and have accepted it for detailed technical review.
The NRC staff plans to complete their review and document any requests for additional information (RAIs) in a letter to EPRI. Based on the complexity of resolving the RAI questions, NRC staff and EPRI may elect to have a meeting or teleconference, if necessary, to come to resolution on the RAIs. Consistent with NRC's policy on openness and transparency, this meeting would be open to the public. After the NRC staff reviews the responses to the RAIs, the staff will issue a Technical Evaluation Report and a closeout letter documenting the results of their review.
In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 2.390 , "Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component o f ADAMS.
