LONG-TERM CORE COOLING FOR THE ADVANCED POWER REACTOR 1400

Dear Dr. Corradini:

On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff, I would like to thank you for the letter from the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) dated June 15, 2018, on its review and evaluation of the long-term core cooling (LTCC) approach for the design of the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400). Your letter was in response to the discussions on the LTCC approach that took place during the 654th meeting of the ACRS on June 6-7, 2018.

The ACRS concluded that the APR1400 meets the regulatory requirement for LTCC during design basis accidents.

The staff appreciates the ACRS thorough review.
