IMPENDING PUBLICATION OF TECHNICAL LETTER REPORT ENTITLED IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF PROBABILISTIC FRACTURE MECHANICS ANALYSES UNDER UNR-NRR-2016-004 This is to notify you of the impending publication of the technical letter report (TLR) entitled Important Aspects of Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics Analyses, available under ML18178A431. This TLR was prepared by the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) staff and constitutes the deliverable for work performed in support of Task 1 in User Need Request from the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), NRR-2016-004, Developing Guidelines for the Use of Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics Calculations for Regulatory Decision Making. RES plans to publish this TLR within 2 weeks from the date of this memo unless we hear otherwise from you.
In addition to this TLR, per Electric Power Research Institutes (EPRI) request and NRRs direction, RES plans to publish the questions sent to NRC by EPRI following the December 12, 2017 public meeting, as well as the NRCs answers to those questions. These questions are directly related to the December 12, 2017 meeting, the PFM guidance development project, and the TLR that is the subject of this memo. The subject EPRI/NRC questions and answers document is available under ML18178A436.
Staff representatives from the Division of Materials and License Renewal (DMLR) in NRR have reviewed a draft of this TLR, and RES has addressed all comments provided by DMLR staff in close coordination with DMLR staff. Please notify the responsible RES contact if you have any questions concerning the impending public release of this TLR.
