8ih LULAC New Mexico State Convention RESOLUTION WHEREAS THE LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) is a civil right organization.
Whereas LULAC is the oldest organization of Hispanic Americans in the United States.
WHEREAS The Mission of LULAC is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health, and civil rights of the Hispanic population of New Mexico and the United States.
WHEREAS representing the interests of all the people in New Mexico, including those in Lea and Chaves counties who have been previously affected in a negative way by exposure to radiation from the Trinity test site back in July of 1945. Now they are being faced with plans for nuclear waste facilities in Lea and Chaves counties. These are a danger to all Americans.
While the project is still in the licensing and permit stage that LULAC support the effort to prevent the building of any more nuclear waste facility sites in New Mexico.
WHEREAS New Mexico was chosen to test the atomic bomb at the Trinity site, we do not need any moi:e problems with radiation exposure. Therefore, be it resolved New Mexico LULAC supports this effort to prevent any further problems as we have had in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Therefore, hereby be it resolved that New Mexico LULAC supports a full inquiry and review of the administrative record NMED Hazardous Waste Bureau, and obtain a copy of the draft pennit which is a public notice and a fact sheet which is also available on the department's website https://www.env.nrn.gov/HWB/tppenn.html. To clarify the truth of what is intended to be done by these agencies that only provide confusing infonnation only.
