Glen Allen, Virginia 23060

Dear Mr. Stewart:

June 8, 1993

SUBJECT:

NRC BULLETIN 88-04 POTENTIAL SAFETY RELATED PUMP LOSS-AUXILIARY FEEDWATER PUMPS:

NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNITS 1&2 (NA-1&2) AND SURRY POWER STATION, UNITS 1&2 (SURRY 1&2) AND (TAC NOS. M86183, 86184 AND M86374, M86375)

By letter dated December 9, 1992, you stated that you were modifying your previous commitments for scheduled inspections of the auxiliary feedwater (AFW) pumps at NA-1&2 and Surry 1&2.

Your previous commitments for scheduled inspections of the AFW pumps were based on your responses to NRC Bulletin 88-04, "Potential Safety Related Pump Loss" dated August 8, 1988 for both Surry 1&2 and NA-1&2.

Your December 9, 1992 letter further indicated that future AFW pump inspections at both NA-1&2 and Surry 1&2 would be based on pump performance and predictive analysis.

Based on the enclosed safety evaluation, we find your revised commitments for future AFW pump inspections at Surry 1&2 and NA-1&2 to be acceptable.

Sincerely, (Original Signed By)

Leon B. Engle, Project Manager Project Directorate 11-2 Division of Reactor Projects I/II
