SUBJECT:
SURRY UNITS 1 AND 2 - SAFETY EVALUATION OF REVISED POST-FIRE SAFE SHUTDOWN METHODOLOGY (TAC NOS. M65840 AND M65841)
In a submittal dated April 1987, you transmitted Revision 4 to the "10 CFR 50 Appendix R Report," which superseded previous submittals.
Our consultant, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), evaluated this information.
SAIC had a number of questions and concerns with your revised methodology.
A request for additional information was sent to you by letter dated December 9, 1987, and you responded by letter dated January 22, 1988.
SAIC's initial Technical Evaluation Report (TER) identified two open items:
- 1.
Lack of associated circuits analysis of multiple high impedance faults; and
- 2.
Operator entry into fire areas for safe shutdown manual actions.
Subsequently, you submitted supplemental information dated July 26, 1990, December 19, 1990, and December 19, 1991, addressing the above-cited open items.
Based on our evaluation of the supplemental information, we find that you have resolved those two open items.
We have also revised the SAIC TER and are issuing it as a Safety Evaluaton (enclosed).
We are, therefore, closing out TAC Nos. M65840 and M65841.
