Dear Mr. Slayton:

As you may know, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) periodically evaluates the effectiveness of its licensees through a program called the Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP).

Through this program, we critically review and evaluate our licensees performance in the following major categories: Plant Operations, Radiological Controls, Maintenance/Surveillance, Emergency Preparedness, Security, Engineering/Technical Support, and Safety Assessment/Quality Verification.

On Jurie 22, 1992, representatives of the NRC will present its findings to the management of Virginia Electric and Power Company for the SALP which was recently conducted relative to the Surry Power Station. Subsequent to this meeting, and in the interest of fostering positive communications, we would be happy to meet with you and other members of your staff, as you deem appropriate, to discuss matters of mutual interest.

This SALP meeting is scheduled to be conducted at 1:00 p.m., at the Surry Nuclear Information Center.
