1 OCFRSO APPENDIX R FIRE BARRIER DISCREPANCIES 92-089A R4 50-280 50-281 DPR-32 DPR-37 Our letter of February 24, 1992. (Serial No.92-089) discussed two 1 OCFR50 Appendix R discrepancies associated with auxiliary
- building block walls and indicated that we would advise you of the status of our corrective actions by April 30, 1992. The purpose of this letter is to provide that information.
Thickness and Fire Rating of Four Inch Block Wall Subject to further evaluation, the planned corrective action to address this discrepancy is to redefine the fire area boundary. Specifically, the wall of the pipe chase area in closest proximity to the auxiliary building (rather than the wall in closest proximity to the cable vault) would become the fire area boundary. This redefinition would require the addition of a fire door and the sealing of penetrations in the pipe chase floor and wall.
If further evaluation of this proposed corrective action shows that this modification is not feasible, an alternative action to fireproof the four inch block wall will be evaluated. Evaluations for redefining the fire boundary are expected to be completed by June 30, 1992.
As noted in our February 24, 1992 letter, compensatory measures have been established and will remain in place until the corrective actions to restore the fire rating of this area are completed.
Breach of Twelve Inch Block wan To address this discrepancy, the fire area boundary was redefined to exclude the small room where the breach was identified. The redefinition of the fire area boundary required the replacement of a door with a fire door. Installation of the fire door is complete. The Surry Appendix R Report and the fire area boundary drawing will be revised by December 15, 1992 to incorporate this change.

. Subsequent to transmittal of our February 24, 1992 letter, walkdowns of the remaining fire walls were completed to confirm their compliance with the Appendix R Report. No additional discrepancies were noted during these walkdowns.
