DPR-32 During the period September 14, 1988 through July 7, 1989, Unit 1 was shutdown for an extended outage, when numerous maintenance and modification activities were performed. ASME Section XI 1980 Edition, Winter 1980 Addendum, Subparagraph IWA-2400(c), states "For power units that are out of service continually for 6 months or more, the inspection interval during which the outage occurred may be extended for a period equivalent to the outage." Therefore, pursuant to ASME Section XI, the second lnservice Inspection Interval for Surry Unit 1 is being extended to account for the 296 day outage. The end date for the second interval will now be October 14, 1993 and, correspondingly, the third interval October 14, 2003.
Currently, Surry Unit 1 is in the third period of the second 1 O year interval. In addition to the interval extension noted above, applying the grace period in accordance with ASME Section XI, Subparagraph IWA-2400(c) will allow Unit 1 to complete its second 1 O year lnservice Inspection requirements over the next two refueling outages. These refueling outages are currently scheduled for the Spring of 1992 and Spring of 1994.
The final Type A test of the second interval remains scheduled for the Spring 1992 outage as required by 1 O CFR 50 Appendix J Ill D (a).
