SUBJECT:
UNIMPLEMENTED GENERIC SAFETY ISSUES AT SURRY UNITS 1 AND 2 On April 25, 1990 the staff issued Generic Letter 90-04 which requested infor-mation concerning the implementation status of certain generic safety issues (GSis) at your facility.
Based on your response to this Generic Letter, dated July 6, 1990, our own records and discussions with your staff, we have updated our database on GS! implementation status. The results of this effort were presented to the Commission at a meeting on October 25, 1990.
The enclosure to this letter summarizes the staff's understanding of the current status of those GSis which remain unimplemented at Surry Units 1 and 2.
We appreciate the assistance you provided in responding to Generic Letter 90-04 and we encourage your timely completion of those GSis listed in the enclosure.

- The licensee recently verbally informed the NRC staff of a delay in the completion of this issue on Unit 1. The original projected completion date was 12/90. The delay is due to difficulty in procuring the special fiber optic material necessary for implementation of the required instrumentation.
The licensee expects to complete this issue no later than the Unit 2 scheduled completion date of 6/91.
- The only remaining open item is the upgrading of administrative procedures which are scheduled to be completed by 9/30/91.
