VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY SURRY POWER STATION UNIT NO. 2 STEAM GENERATOR TUBE PLUGGING REPORT Serial No.

89-1 71 PES/ISI/FPB:vlh Docket No.

50-281 License No.

DPR-37 Surry Unit 2 completed eddy current examination of two steam generators (893 tubes in steam generator "A" and 891 tubes in steam generator "C") during the recent 1988/1989 refueling outage. As required by the provisions of paragraph 4.19(F)(a) of Surry TechnicaL Specifications, this letter notifies you that one tube**was plugged in steam generator "A'::_,

In response to recent concerns regarding mechanical tube plug failures, one tube in "A" steam generator was replugged this outage. During this work, an adjacent tube (Row 41 Col 27) was inadvertently plugged as well. Both of these tubes were plugged on the hot leg side only.

No tubes were plugged this outage based on the interpretation of eddy current signals.

Very truly yours, U.~
