e VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY.
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA 23261 August 13, 1993 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:
VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY SURRY POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 Serial No.
NL&P/ETS Docket Nos.93-448 R1 50-280 50-281 50-338 50-339 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 NPF-4 NPF-7 NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 8~02 IMPLEMENTATION OF GIP GUIDANCE Our June 29, 1993 letter (Serial No.92-763) provided supplemental information describing our implementation of the USI A-46 program. In that letter, we inadvertently stated that we will use the GIP methodology as an alternate seismic qualification method for new and replacement, as well as existing electrical and mechanical equipment when revising our licensing basis in accordance with 1 O CFR 50.59. We intended to state that the GIP methodology will be used as an alternate seismic verification method (as opposed to qualification method) for the stated equipment and the licensing basis will be revised accordingly. This is consistent with the statement made in our 120 day letter, dated September 18, 1992, Serial No.92-384, wherein we stated, "Virginia Electric and Power Company intends to change its licensing basis methodology for verifying the seismic adequacy of new and replacement, as well as existing, electrical and mechanical equipment before receipt of a final plant-specific SER resolving USI A;46.
Should you have any additional questions or concerns regarding our implementation of the GIP methodology, please contact us.
Very truly yours, Nd~
