License Nos. NPF-4 NPF-7 DPR-32 DPR-37 VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 SURRY POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING GENERIC LETTER 93-04 By a December 14, 1994 letter, the NRC requested additional information to address Generic Letter (GL) 93-04, entitled "Rod Control System Failure and Withdrawal of Rod Control Cluster Assemblies, 1 OCFR50.54(f)." Specifically, we have been requested to either commit to implement the current order timing modification and the new current order surveillance test to be done each refueling (prior to startup from the next refueling outage that begins later than three months from receipt of this letter) or provide an alternative long-term plan and schedule. This letter provides the response to the request for additional information for the North Anna and Surry Power Stations.
The Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) issued the Recommended Rod Control System Surveillance Test by an April 8, 1994 letter (WOG-94-048) and the Rod Control System Timing Change Information by a June 13, 1994 letter (WOG-94-085).
We evaluated these recommendations and plan to implement both the recommended surveillance testing and the current order timing changes at North Anna and Surry Power Stations.
The surveillance procedure revisions have been completed at both stations. The recommended surveillance testing was performed at the conclusion of the North Anna Unit 1 refueling outage ending in October 1994. The surveillance testing will be performed at the conclusion of the following currently scheduled refueling outages, as well as future refueling outages:
North Anna Unit 2 - March to July 1995 Surry Unit 1 - September to November 1995 Surry Unit 2 - February to April 1995 11
