VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY SURRY POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2
SUMMARY
- REPORT FOR Serial No.
93-663A EE/TCC-CGL R1 Docket Nos.
50-280 50-281 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 INSPECTION AND REPAIR OF ELECTRICAL PENETRATIONS In a letter (Serial No.93-663) dated January 21, 1994, Virginia Electric and Power Company indicated that a summary report of the inspection and repair of electrical penetrations would be submitted within 90 days of completion of the Surry Power Station Unit 2 work, which was completed during the June 1994 steam generator chemical cleaning outage. The summary report is provided in the attachment. The legend for the attachment explains the report designations. To summarize the results, 211 O Units 1 and 2 electrical penetrations were inspected and 1031 penetration repairs were required. The majority of the repairs were required due to an inadequate depth of the fire stop sealant material. It should be noted that a station deviation report was written for the barriers that required repair, and a continuous fire watch was posted until the repairs were completed.
If you have questions or require additional information, please contact us.
Very truly yours,

N/A N/A 10 Total: 10 FA-This is the Fire Area number that corresponds to the numbers listed in the Surry Appendix R Report. Although there are 36 areas in the Appendix R Report, only 25 of these areas are listed in the summary report. Some areas were not listed since the barriers (floor/ceiling or wall) associated with the area is common to another fire area and was inspected under the other fire area number. Also, some fire areas were omitted since their barriers do not require inspection (e.g., Units 1 and 2 containment - Fire Areas 15 and 16) or have only exterior barriers that are not required to be fire rated (e.g., Radwaste Facility - Fire Area 65).
BARRIER NO. -This is a designation that was assigned to the individual barriers for ease of tracking and are not intended to be permanent labels.
PEN. NOS. (#) - These are numerical designations that were set aside for penetrations to be inspected in each barrier and are not intended to be permanent station labels. The number in ( ) indicates the total number of penetrations inspected for each barrier.
NO. of REPAIRS - This is the number of repairs that were made for each barrier.
Note 1: These are 4 inch thick walls that will not be upgraded to provide a 3-hour fire resistance rating. The fire barrier boundary was changed by a design change so these walls are not required to have a fire rating. Therefore, these walls will not be evaluated as part of this effort.
