SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-280/94-09 AND 50-281/94-09
This refers to the Service Water System Operational Performance Inspection
(SWSOPI) conducted by Mr. L. Mellen and others of this office on April 11-15
and June 6-10, 1994;
The inspection included a review of activities
authorized for your Surry Nuclear Power Station. At the conclusion of the
inspection, the findings were discussed with members of your staff identified
in the enclosed report.
The enclosed inspection report identifies areas examined during the
inspection. The inspectors reviewed the Service Water System Operational
Performance Assessment (SWSOPA} conducted by your staff. The inspectors
performed detailed reviews of selected SWSOPA findings.
The reviews included
selected portions of the Service Water System design, maintenance, operation,
surveillance, and testing. The inspectors also assessed the planned or
completed actions in response to Generic Letter (GL) 89~13, "Service Water
System Problems Affecting Safety-Related Equipment," issued on July 18, 1989.
In order that we may more clearly understand the disposition of your SWSOPA
findings, we request that you provide us a copy of your corrective action plan
when it is developed.
Within the scope of the inspection, violations or deviations were not
identified.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of
this letter, the enclosures, and your response to this letter will be placed
in the NRC Public Document Room.
