VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY SURRY POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 Serial No.97-091 NL&OS/JDH R1 Docket Nos. 50-280/281 50-338/339 License Nos. DPR-32/37 NPF-4/7 NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 CONVERSION TO IMPROVED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS On May 21, 1996, Virginia Electric and Power Company (Virginia Power) advised the NRC of its intent to submit proposed license amendments in February 1997 and February 1998, respectively, to convert the North Anna and Surry Technical Specifications from their current form to that of the Improved Technical Specifications (NUREG 1431, Rev. 1). Please be advised that those ITS submittals have been temporarily deferred and that the schedules for their submittal are currently under evaluation. The revised schedules will be based on the integration of several ongoing activities at Virginia Power related to the validation of design and licensing bases information.
It is our intent to inform you of the results of our evaluation and establish new schedules for the submittal of the proposed Surry and North Anna license amendments by March 31, 1997. Virginia Power remains committed to the goal of converting to and realizing the benefits of Improved Technical Specifications. Mr.
C. I. Grimes, Chief, Technical Specifications Branch, has been informed of our intent to temporarily defer the submittals during informal discussions of our conversion plans.
