98-177A R2 50-280 DPR-32 In a March 23, 1998, telephone call with the NRC, Virginia Electric and Power Cpmpany (Virginia Power) requested relief from ASME Section XI pressure boundary corrective action and flaw evaluation requirements to permit a determination of operability of the Residual Heat Removal System. The NRC subsequently provided verbal approval of the relief request. The request was formally documented in a letter (Serial No.98-177) also dated March 23, 1998.
In a subsequent telephone call between Virginia Power and the NRC on March 25, 1998, the NRC requested two additional actions regarding the relief request.
Therefore, we commit to complete the following two actions:
- 1. Virginia Power will perform a failure analysis of the Residual Heat Removal System pipe leak, including metallurgical analysis of a pipe sample taken from the leak area.
- 2. Upon completion of the analysis, we will provide the results to the NRC.
