SURRY POWER STATION, UNIT 1 -THIRD 10-YEAR INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM RELIEF REQUEST NO. SR-019 (TAC NO. M99905)
Dear Mr. O'Hanlon:
The purpose of this letter is to grant the relief you requested in your letter dated September 22, 1997.
Our evaluation and conclusions are contained in the Enclosure, the Safety Evaluation. The Code requirements for the weld configurations addressed in Relief Request No. SR-019 are impractical because the weld configurations prevent full examination coverage, and design modifications would be necessary, if the requirements were imposed, which would cause a considerable burden on the Virginia Electric and Power Company. The subject relief request is granted, pursuant to 10 CFR Part 50.55a(g)(6)(i), as the Code requirements are impractical and your proposed alternatives provide reasonable assurance of operational readiness for the affected systems.
This concludes our efforts on this issue and we are, therefore, closing out TAC No. M99905.
