88-04: "Potential Safety-Related Pump Loss" identified two concerns related to pump operation on minimum flow recirculation.
The bulletin requested licensees to evaluate these concerns for safety-related centrifugal pumps and to provide a written response within 60 days detailing the results of the evaluations and the corrective actions that the licensee intends to take.
Virginia Electric and Power Company has determined that potentially susceptible safety-related pump and piping configurations do exist at both Surry and North Anna.
Evaluations of these systems are in progress, but have not yet been completed.
As discussed with the Surry and North Anna NRC Project Managers on July 7, 1988, an additional thirty days will be required to complete our evaluations.
Our response will be provided by August 8, 1988.
In the interim, any concerns identified during these evaluations will be reviewed by the Station Nuclear Safety and Operating Counnittee to determine if an unreviewed safety question exists and if continued operation is justified.
