87-740A R2 50-280 50-281 DPR-32 DPR-37 In our letter of December 4, 1987 we agreed to provide the results of an evaluation concerning the plant modifications necessary to facilitate hydraulic testing of the Inside Recirculation Spray Pumps on a frequency of every refueling outage.
In your letter of January 6, 1988 (TAC NOS. 65555 and 65556), you stated that interim relief has been granted until February 29, 1988 from hydraulic testing of our Units 1 and 2 Inside Recirculation Spray Pumps. You also stated that this interim relief may be extended after we have established a reasonable schedule for completing the piping modifications required to perform the hydraulic testing of these pumps.
Our evaluation has been completed and we are presently in the process of performing the engineering to install the modifi cat i ans necessary to facil i -
tate hydraulic testing. The engineering associated with these modifications is scheduled to be completed by April 1, 1988.
We intend to install the modifications and test the pumps by the completion of each Unit's 1988 refueling outages presently scheduled to start on April 8, 1988 for Unit 1 and September 2, 1988 for Unit 2. As noted in our previous letter, subsequent hydraulic testing of these pumps will be on a refueling outage basis.

""we therefore request an extension of the interim relief granted to coincide with our schedule for installation of these modifications.
We conclude that the inside recirculation spray pumps are and will continue to be operable through this interim period based on the reasons detailed in our December 4, 1987 letter.
