817 Princeton Drive SE Albuquerque, NM, 87106 Email: finkelbury8@msn.com General Comment I am offering a comment on the Scope of NRC's Environmental Impact Statement for spent nuclear fuel. I am a resident of Albuquerque and my life and well-being may very well be jeopardized by the transportation of spent nuclear fuel rods from all over the country passing through Albuquerque.
First of all, these are no guarantees of a train derailment interfering with the safe transport of these rods. There are no guarantees of terrorists attacking the trains.
Once at these facilities, the possibility exists of leakage and human error exposing our land, water, and New Mexicans to radiation. Let's learn from our prior experiences. Look at the WHIP accident where a drum containing nuclear waste blew up in an underground nuclear dump. The explosion ranks among the costliest nuclear accidents topping over two billion dollars to clean up and jeopardizing the safety of the people in the area.
Holtec offers the incentive of adding 100 permanent jobs to the community. The is laughable when you compare that benefit with the health and safety of New Mexicans. It is no accident that California, Texas, Nevada etc. are saying "not in my backyard" do you place the nuclear storage facility to store nuclear poison.
