Dear Mr. Reid:

Re:

St. Lucie Unit 1, Docket No. 50-335 Your letter of May 8, 1978, transmitted three enclosures of ques-tions which you indicated were necessary to complete your evalua-tions of the St. Lucie Unit 1 operation.

Our letter of May 19, 1978, indicated that we would provide a schedule for furnishing our responses to the questions contained in Enclosures 1,

2, and 3 by June 8,

1978.

A response to Enclosure 1, which identified information needed to resolve your concerns on water hole peaking problems, can be sub-mitted by August 1, 1978.

Enclosures 2 and 3 identify 3.nformation on two Combustion Engi-neering topical reports, which were submitted several years ago as part of a generic process and not specifically relating to the St. Lucie docket.

Your letter of May 8, 1978, indicated that, questions on CENPD-153 were provided to Combustion Engineering by letter dated December 12, 1975.

Questions on CENPD-145 were indi-cated to be new questions.

We are unable to provide information relating to these two generic issues.

Combustion Engineering, the source of these topical reports, has indicated that they have no planned response to these questionnaires at this time.

Since these are generic issues relating to matters not submitted on the St.

Lucie docket, we believe that the matter should be pursued between the two principals,

namely, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Combustion Engineering.

You ery truly, obert E.
