Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
1n the subject Licensee. Event Repor). dated March i, i976, it was stated that the remaining MG-6 relays in safeguard racks would be checked for clearance during safeguard functional test during the refueling outage that was in'progress.
Fourteen relays were checked for clearance between the electro-magnet pole face and the raised section of the armature which strikes the pole face.
As per Westinghouse instruction manual the clearance should be between
.005" and.015".
The results of the inspection are as follows:

Nine relays were found with about..012" clea'rance.

Two relays were found with about.006" clearance.
They were adjusted to about.012".
.Two relays were found with about.005" clearance.
They were adjusted to about.012".
One relay was found with less than.005" clearance.
It was adjusted to about.012".
The Nuclear Safety Audit and Review Board, at their meeting on April 13, 1976, recommended that at least one check of the clearance on

these MG-6 relays be made no later than the next regular refueling to detect any drift of these settings.
