Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment R.E.
Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Unit No.
1 Docket No. 50-244
Dear Mr. Ziemann:
This letter is in response to a request from a member of your staff to supplement information presented in our report submitted by letter dated February 24, 1978 to Mr. A. Schwencer, Operating Reactors Branch Il.
We were requested to provide additional information on the level of qualification for electrical penetrations at Ginna.
Our supplier, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, has prepared a test. report entitled "Design Approval Tests on Materials Used in Westinghouse Penetrations for the Brunswick Station of Carolina Power and Light Company",
and has informed us that the report is applicable to all penetrations at Ginna.
The report determines that all
- cables, support insulators, insulating sleeving on conductors, sealing compounds and connectors will function satisfactorily after exposure to steam at 90 psig and 175oC for six hours plus 55 psig at 150oC for eighteen hours; be suitable for a forty year life at 57oC ambient; and will suffer no degradation due to a forty year accumulated exposure of 1.17 x 108 rads
- gamma, including an accident exposure of 7 x 106 rads gamma in one hour.
Based on these data, it can be concluded that the electrical penetrations at Ginna are acceptable.
Very truly yours,
. P-L.D. White, Jr.
