\\'(//LUAM L STE\\FAIIT Vice President Nuclear Operations Nuclear Operations Department Post Office Box 26666 One James River Plaza Richmond, Virginia 23261 April 15, 1985 VIRGINIA POWER Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:

Mr. Steven A. Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:

VIRGINIA POWER Serial No.85-200 NO/JDH:acm Docket Nos. 50-280 50-281 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 SURRY POWER STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 10CFR50 APPENDIX R REANALYSIS On November 30, 1984, Virginia Power submitted Letter No. 692 which described modifications and requests for exemptions for the Surry Power Station as a result of our "Phase II" Appendix R reanalysis effort. In addition, this letter identified schedular objectives for the associated design modifications and appropriate compensatory measures to be imple-mented until the final design modifications could be completed.

The scheduled date for the installation and testing of the "Phase II" Appendix R related emergency lighting was prior to start-up from the 1985 Unit 2 Refueling Outage.

However, this date no longer appears to be achievable.

This is primarily due to the larger than anticipated number of emergency lighting fixtures necessary to adequately illuminate the required shutdown equipment and access and egress routes.

The revised date for completion of this modification is December 15, 1985.

The compensatory measures previously provided will be maintained until the permanent emergency lighting installation is complete. The NRC Surry Project Manager and the NRC Resident Inspector have been advised of this change.
